HeartKids of SA
Childhood Heart Disease is the greatest killer of Australian children under the age of five. And at least two South Australian families relocate to Melbourne each week for between two weeks and six months so that their child can receive life giving heart surgery not available in Adelaide. Understandably the emotional and financial burden on families experiencing this trauma is enormous. Alarmingly six babies with Congenital Heart Disease are born in Australia every day and some children acquire heart disease during early life. HeartKids SA’s main aim is to support these children and their families with a range of free services including such things as Playgroups, Hospital Visits and Support Packs, Travel Assistance, Support Groups, Telephone Support Lines and ongoing contact. In addition, HeartKids SA raises funds for hospital equipment and research through which it is aimed to reduce the incidence and mortality rate of children born with Congenital Heart Disease. HeartKids is the only organisation dedicated to supporting all facets of Childhood Heart Disease.
