  Huntington's Disease
Huntington's Disease is a genetically inherited disorder that results in the progressive loss of control of both the body and mind. Each child of an affected parent has a 50/50 chance of inheriting the disorder, which affects both males and females, and the disease causes cells to be destroyed at an early age, and no new cells can grow in their place. The disease causes changes in the areas of movement, personality and intellect.

Children as young as two years of age have been diagnosed with Juvenile Huntington's, but many people do not show symptoms until about 20 - 30 years of age, and quite often have had children and passed on the gene. At present there is no cure, for Huntington's Disease, and no way to stop the relentless destruction of brain cells.

The Australian Huntington's Disease Association (SA & NT) Inc. provides services and support for families affected by the disease, by providing information and education to families, care providers and medical professionals, students and the general public. Services provided to families include a weekly Day Program for sufferers, Carers meetings and Retreats and family meetings.
