Special Olympics South Australia
Special Olympics believes in the power of sport to change lives.
People with an intellectual disability are recognised by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as the largest disability community in the world, and they are considered to be one of the most socially-isolated groups. But through sport and a holistic approach to athlete wellbeing, we are breaking down barriers and allowing people with an intellectual disability to achieve their best.
For 26 years Special Olympics SA has been providing sporting pathways, leadership, health and welfare programs, and social connection for people loving with an Intellectual Debility.
Our numbers have been steadily growing and with the work of our dedicated volunteers we are seeing growth in all areas of their lives.
Over the last few years we have been having great results on the sporting field but most importantly we are always recognised for our sportsmanship, fitness and fairness on and off the flied.
Following the National Games this year were we saw all athletes bringing home a medal or achieving their personal best we have had 11 athletes selected to attend the World Games In Abu Dhabi next year plus 2 support team – a good result for one of the smaller states.
